Stop the sale of beadlet nems from UK shores into our hobby

Postby cdurkin100 » Tue Jun 15, 2010 3:47 pm

Please take time out to sign the on-line petiton to get the sale of beadlet nems stopped on ebay. This will be posted on other forums to try and throw as much weight behind it as possible before presenting it to ebay and other advertising outlets they use.

Signed and supported .. although as noble as the cause is without government (defra) support eBay are unlikely to act.

someone questions his auction

Hi there..

I am a little concerned about your ebay auction for this red "reef" anemone..

This anemone is a beadlet anemone (Actinia equina) and commonly found around the british isles, however your advertising them as found in the Caribbean and Western Atlantic, and there is no mention that this species of nem is common to our our own isles. Your auction is very misleading and not providing the correct information. I would suggest you ammend your action wording else i feel i shall have to report this fact to eBay. Its not fair on the people who buy these and they probably dont understand what they are buying. These are plague anemone's and can spread rather quickly. Please review the following link for info on this anemone.

If he has over 600 sales and imports them from Greece then I am sure there are a few avenues to pursue with this seller outside of eBay.

We've seen better dealers close for less

It's great your doing this but its not just beadlets they are ripping out of the sea, there are just as many snakelocks, snails and algaes popping up. Isn't it illegal to collect and sell these anyway? your allowed to harvest a few for personal use but not to sell them on, from what i've heard. Might be worth looking down this avenue as ebay couldn't let them sell them if it was illegal.
