Cheap Digital Thermometer

Postby davethefish » Thu Mar 25, 2010 11:04 pm

i bought one of these as it was just so cheap, at just £2.49! from a web company called 'Forttex'
p&p is only £1.79 on it's own, though i bought it with another larger purchase.

i set it up on the QT tank and checked it against my pinpoint thermometer, it's spot on to 0.1C
ordered on monday night it was delivered today.
so i'm very happy with it, especially for the price. :tu:

Bargain that Dave. Seen the exact same thing on a website of a well known aquatics company for £6 plus p&p

i got it after browsing the site and buying this TC-10 for £29.99 as well:

i'm going to set up on the QT tank to see how reliable it is,
and eventually move it across to the display if it seems ok.
as it can handle higher loads than the habistat heaterstat i'm using, and control a chiller as well.
plus it has a smaller temperature differential than the ATC800's set point.
so should be able to keep temps within a 1.0C range instead of 2.0C.

I bought one of them a couple of years back, after 2 months the probe started to rust and split and the temp alarm kept going off..... dont know if theyve changed the probes since then....

they send them out with all plastic probes, but offer stainless ones as an alternative.
quite a few people who have had them, reported good things.
so maybe they changed the spec? they look the same as the ones for the ATC 800+ which they also sell :chin:
the temperature can be calibrated, so i'd imagine any 2 wire temp probe of the same voltage would do work....?

I have been running one for over a year now with no problems at all.
I have the plastic probe on mine and it is fine. Set at 25 c and fans cut in at 25.5 and heater at 24.5.
Chop it and scarper !
