Aqua digital orp controller

Postby medusa » Sun Feb 07, 2010 11:18 am

I've just got one and i already have a reef scientific ozonizer which has been running for one hour in every four for some time.
I have had the probe in the sump for 48 hours and its settled at 250 and I'm just about to calibrate it to see what my off set reading is.
Is it safe to now plug the Ozonizer in and set it to take the readings up to 350 or do i need to gradually raise it by 20 or so ?
I've had a white spot outbreak after adding a powder blue tang and it seems to be receding but it is not completely gone so i'd like to get my orp reading up as soon as posable.
I've also got flatworm which I'm syphoning out but not eradicating and wonder how safe it is to use Ozone to kill them, i've read Chews brilliant Ozone thread and followed his advise,i've got carbon on top of my skimmer cup but not in the water.

I would go up in stages over a month. If you set your controller to 350 straight off your ozoner will be on 24/7 till it reaches that reading and you dont want that.
Chop it and scarper !

the output is between 0 and 100 mg; because of the greater efficiency over corona discharge ozonisers this is comparable in output to that of a 200mg Sanders unit when used without an expensive air dryer.
the literature that comes with it does not give you an actual output, rather it advises you that the low setting is designed to dose up to 400 liters of water and its highest setting up to 1600 liters , thats why i got the controller

Hi there

Set it to a low setting and the controller to say 280 for a few days and see what it is like, you will see how much the generator is on then and if it can cope with raising the ORP, If it cant then ramp it up a notch, Go up by 20 or 30 with the controller setting every few days till you get to where you want to be.

Regards

Yep what Malc says! Nothing good ever happens fast in a reef tank!

How long should it take to calibrate the probe, the instructions say a few minutes but mine has been rising steadily but very slowly for 15 minutes ?

the calibration solution only lasts for 90 minutes then its lost its accuracy , mine seems to have settled down now after about a half an hour at 419, which means my tank orp is 270 not 251

ORP probes are renound for being tricky things to get calibrated as well as drifting alot too. The best thing you can do with a new one is stick it in the tank and leave it for atleast 24 hours before you try to calibrate it.

it finally settled at 422 after a good 75 minutes, its now giving me a tank reading of 315, as opposed to 251 which it was saying before calibration, so I'm not really sure what that tells me ? Could the probe have been dirty and putting it in the Cali fluid has cleaned it, doubtful with a new probe i would have thought ,all in all not much good
